 Battery relocation for better traction
« Thread Started on Oct 22, 2003, 9:12pm »

Well...for me the battery relocation was to get the bright yellow optima battery out of the show area...right into the trunk with that thing.

I read that relocating a 35lb battery to the right side of the trunk is the equivelent of putting 60lbs over the right rear tire. (the one that because of the forces of inertia gets the least traction) I have no digital scale to prove weight distribution, but from what I can tell....I do have more traction from a dead stop. The tires do not spin for as long as they used to.

For me....definately woth the time, effort and money.

its not really hard, its just time consuming. if you have a full day to do it in, like a straight stretch of 6 hours, you'll be fine. we can make it tech day 16, cause we have been having 2-15 over here every weekend...

I need a tech day for putting on exhaust. They should be here in like 1 week. I ordered Magna Flows cat-back and every tells me that it would be better to put them on myself rather than paying some bobs shop. Ya know?

Micah,
The battery relocation is not hard at all...the only reason that it took so lon g for us is that I didn't have all the parts that I needed for my particular install when we started. The harderst part is deciding where to run the power wire. I wanted to cleanest, non-noticable cable run...while still keeping the wire inside the car to avoid damage from road debris and mother nature damage.

I actually bought a Monster Cable AMP wiring kit and used the power wire from that for my power wire. I ran that wore through the car, down the drivers side to the fornt fender well where the original battery was. I bought a non-fused power distribution block and connected the original battery wires into the distribution block. So far everything works as well as when the battery was in the stock location.

I grounded the battery to the rear seat belt bolt. (federal regulations require the seat belts to be bolted to the frame of the car...providing the most secure grounding point.) The original ground from the block to the battery is now grounded to the fornt sway bar mount bolt....also into the frame.
